Custom Cabinet Ideas For Kitchens With Limited Cabinet Space

About Me
Creating A Home You Can Be Proud Of

As soon as I purchased my first place, I knew that I needed to step up my interior design game. After I moved all of my apartment furniture into the space, I could tell that things needed to be tweaked slightly. My apartment furniture was smaller than my home, and it made everything look silly. To resolve my design dilemma, I spent a little time going through interior design magazines and deciding how I wanted my home to look. I also invested in better furniture and high-end decor pieces. The difference that it made was incredible. This blog is all about creating a home that you will love forever.

If your kitchen has limited space for cabinets, you may be wondering what you can do to create the storage areas you need. Talk to your remodeling contractor, and use some of these custom cabinet ideas to provide ample storage in your small space.

Custom Under-Sink Drawers

The space under your kitchen sink can provide ample storage space, but without shelves or drawers, it can be difficult to get the most out of this cabinet. Work with your contractor to install pullout shelves or drawers, which can be used to provide storage space while still giving you access to the sink's plumbing fixtures. One convenient design incorporates a larger drawer on the bottom of each side of the cabinet, with a narrow shelf attached. This gives you two tiers of storage, and the pullout feature makes it easy to access items stored in the back.

Custom Kickplate Drawers

Maximize your storage space by transforming your kickplates into under-cabinet storage. Your contractor can build and install install these shallow drawers underneath your lower cabinets to create a convenient place for storing pot and pan lids, baking pans, or even canned goods. When closed, the drawers blend into your cabinet line.

Custom Cabinet Surrounds

Use the space around your refrigerator for storage by having your contractor build a custom cabinet surround. This option is ideal if your refrigerator sits on an empty wall. Narrow kitchen cabinets on either side of the refrigerator can be used as a mini pantry, and cabinets above the appliance can provide space for miscellaneous storage. Be sure to have the cabinets built to sit flush along the front of the refrigerator, as this provides maximum storage space while giving your kitchen an elegant finishing touch.

Corner Counter Cabinets

The corners of kitchen counters don't always get used to their maximum potential. If you need additional storage space, consider having custom corner cabinets built onto the counters. With shelves installed, these cabinets provide additional space for storing everything from pantry items to stemware. If you prefer a more open look for your counters, have your contractor install a cabinet with a glass door. For easy access to items at the back of the corner cabinet, consider incorporating a lazy Susan into the space as well.

Discuss your storage needs with your contractor before you begin your remodeling project so you can determine which of these ideas make the most sense for your space. You may even find that you can use all of these ideas to create ample storage for all of your pantry items, small appliances, cookware, and serving pieces.
